New procedures for processing disability claims, as required by the Labor Department, took effect on April 1, 2018. Employer-sponsored plans that deal with disability claims, including retirement plans that allow early payouts following a disability, should be amended. Even if documents haven’t been updated, prepare to handle claims under the new procedures, benefits attorneys advise.
